Lightyear

Lightyear follows the Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear, the fictional astronaut whose story inspired the toy familiar from the Toy Story films. Stranded on a hostile planet far from Earth along with his commander and crew, Buzz searches for a way to bring everyone home. He keeps testing a hyperspeed crystal that could let his ship continue the journey, but each attempt costs him years of time, and when he finally reaches hyperspeed, decades have passed on the planet. He then joins a group of inexperienced recruits and his robot companion Sox, while the arrival of Zurg and an army of robots complicates the mission.

The film was directed by Angus MacLane, who wrote the screenplay with Jason Headley and produced it with Galyn Susman. It is the fourth feature-length work MacLane directed, following the shorts BURN·E, Small Fry and Toy Story of Terror! Chris Evans voices Buzz, with Keke Palmer as Izzy Hawthorne, Peter Sohn as Sox, Taika Waititi as Mo Morrison, Dale Soules as Darby Steel and James Brolin as Zurg. Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures produced it on a budget of 200 million dollars.

Released in June 2022, the film earned about 226 million dollars worldwide, a modest return against its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 135,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.9 from a much smaller electorate. A critics' rating of 6.7 from 322 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
