Roy Waller is a seasoned con artist who runs small-time scams with his younger partner, Frank Mercer. Roy's personal life is another matter: he lives alone, struggles with agoraphobia and obsessive compulsions, and sees a therapist largely to keep himself functioning well enough to work. During one of their sessions, he learns that he has a teenage daughter, Angela, whose existence he had suspected but never confirmed. She turns up at his home and moves in, disturbing the rigid routines he has built around his neuroses. When Angela discovers how her father earns a living, she wants to learn the trade herself, and she proves unexpectedly skilled at it, which complicates the pair's plans for a larger score.
