36th Precinct

Set in Paris, 36th Precinct follows two senior officers, Léo Vrinks of the anti-gang brigade and Denis Klein of the organised-crime squad, who are told by their superior Robert Mancini that whoever brings down a violent crew of armoured-van robbers will take charge of the city's criminal investigation department at the address of the title. The two men were once friends, and the rivalry that grows between them shapes both their professional methods and their private lives, since Vrinks's wife Camille is caught up in the conflict. Director Olivier Marchal, a former police officer, wrote the screenplay with Franck Mancuso and Julien Rappeneau.

Daniel Auteuil and Gérard Depardieu lead the cast as the competing officers, with André Dussollier as their chief and Roschdy Zem, Valeria Golino and Daniel Duval in supporting roles. The film was released in 2004 and runs just under two hours.

It was Marchal's first feature as director, made for a budget of around 14 million dollars. Later films in his directing career include A Gang Story, Carbone, Rogue City, Overdose and Squad 36. Audience response has been solid, with a rating of 7.1 from roughly 19,000 votes on IMDb and 6.9 from a smaller number of votes on TMDB. A film critics' rating of 7.2 from six reviews places it slightly above both audience scores.
