Short description

Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans brings together the young heroes of Arcadia, the town at the centre of the magical struggles of the Tales of Arcadia saga, for a single battle. Jim, Claire, Toby and their companions must stand against the Arcane Order, a secretive group determined to control the magic that links their world to others. To do so, the Order has awakened ancient Titans capable of destroying everything, and the heroes have to combine their strengths while their home lies in the path of the threat.

The film is an animated adventure directed by Andrew L. Schmidt, Francisco Ruiz Velasco and Johane Matte, with a screenplay by Guillermo del Toro, Marc Guggenheim and Dan Hageman; del Toro, Chad Hammes and Guggenheim produced it. It follows the earlier animated series in the franchise, and its voice cast includes Emile Hirsch, Lexi Medrano, Charlie Saxton, Kelsey Grammer, Alfred Molina and Steven Yeun among forty-three credited performers.

Released in 2021, it runs 106 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from around 7,200 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.6 from a much smaller base of 372 votes. A critics' score of 6.8 from eight reviews places it somewhat above the IMDb audience figure and below the more limited TMDB one.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The surname of the scientific director of the research station in Alaska is MacReady. This is a reference to Kurt Russell's character in John Carpenter's science fiction horror film 'The Thing' (1982).
