Lucy and Desi is a documentary about the partnership and marriage of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, the couple whose ambitions and personal struggles shaped one of the most influential shows in American television. The film traces how they came together, built their life and work as a pair, and took risks to stay together while creating "I Love Lucy" and changing the entertainment industry. That legacy outlived their relationship and Ball's death in 1989.
The documentary is directed by Amy Poehler, her third feature behind the camera after Wine Country in 2019 and Moxie in 2021. It was written by Mark Monroe, who produced alongside Poehler and Nigel Sinclair. Appearing as themselves are Lucie Arnaz, Bette Midler, Carol Burnett, Laura LaPlaca, Eduardo Machado and Charo. Made in the United States by Imagine Entertainment, Amazon Studios, White Horse Pictures and Imagine Documentaries, it runs 102 minutes.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.7 from around 3,400 votes, while on TMDB it has a 7 out of 46 votes. The two figures are close, suggesting a generally favorable response, though the much larger vote count on IMDb gives that rating more weight.
