When Evil Lurks

Two brothers, Pedro and Jimi, live in an isolated rural area where a man in a nearby house is rotting alive, his body taken over by a demonic presence. They try to remove him from their land, but the proper rites are not followed, and their actions spread the infection through the community rather than containing it. As more people fall under the influence of the evil, the brothers attempt to flee and protect their families, finding that the danger travels with them.

The film was written and directed by Demián Rugna, his fifth feature after Cursed Bastards!, Terrified, Comando campeón and Satanic Hispanics. It was produced by Fernando Díaz and Roxana Ramos, with Ezequiel Rodríguez and Demián Salomón as Pedro and Jimi, alongside Silvina Sabater, Luis Ziembrowski, Marcelo Michinaux and Emilio Vodanovich.

Released in October 2023, the Argentine-American production had a modest theatrical run, taking about 2 million dollars worldwide. It has found a larger audience since: on IMDb it holds 6.9 from around 60,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.2 from over 1,500 votes. A critics' rating of 7.8 from 122 reviews places it clearly above those audience scores, suggesting that reviewers responded to it more strongly than general viewers did.
