Vantage Point

Vantage Point is an action thriller set in Salamanca, Spain, where a global counter-terrorism summit becomes the scene of an attack on the visiting President of the United States. Several people witness the shooting and the chaos that follows from different positions: two Secret Service agents guarding the president, an American tourist filming the event, and a television producer overseeing the live broadcast. The same short stretch of time is shown repeatedly, each pass revealing what one particular observer noticed while leaving the others in the dark. Only by assembling these separate accounts does a fuller picture of the attack emerge.

Pete Travis directed the film, his second feature after Omagh, with a screenplay by Barry Levy and production by Neal H. Moritz and Mark Farrington. Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox play the agents, Forest Whitaker the tourist, Sigourney Weaver the producer, and William Hurt the president. Made for about 40 million dollars, it took roughly 152 million worldwide, a strong return for a mid-budget thriller.

On IMDb it holds 6.6/10 from around 158,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4/10 from far fewer votes. A critics' rating of 5.1/10 from 153 reviews places it below both audience scores, suggesting viewers were more receptive to its fractured structure than reviewers were.
