Open Season

Boog, a large grizzly bear, has spent his life in the quiet town of Timberline, raised by Beth, a forest ranger, and accustomed to comfort rather than wilderness. His routine is disrupted by Elliot, a talkative and scrawny mule deer who has lost an antler to the hunter Shaw. Elliot draws Boog away from his sheltered existence and into the forest, where the two become stranded just as hunting season is about to begin. With Shaw and other hunters closing in, the mismatched pair must work together and gather the forest's other animals into a makeshift force to push the hunters back.

Directed by Jill Culton and Roger Allers, this 2006 animated adventure was the first film in Culton's directing filmography, followed later by Abominable and Oh, the Places You'll Go!, while Allers had previously directed The Lion King. Nat Mauldin, Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman wrote the screenplay, and the voice cast includes Martin Lawrence as Boog, Ashton Kutcher as Elliot, Gary Sinise as Shaw, Debra Messing as Beth and Billy Connolly as McSquizzy, among roughly thirty credited cast members.

Made for about 85 million USD, the film took in around 201 million USD worldwide, a solid return. Audience response has been moderate: it holds a 6.1 rating on IMDb from about 114,000 votes and a 6.2 on TMDB from roughly 3,077 votes, while critics gave it 5.4 from 102 reviews, a slightly cooler reception than general viewers.
