Idiocracy
Short description
Idiocracy follows Joe Bauers, an unambitious U.S. Army private chosen by the Pentagon as the perfect average test subject for a top-secret human hibernation project. Alongside Rita, a sex worker also selected for the experiment, Joe is frozen and promptly forgotten. When he wakes, five hundred years have passed and he finds himself in the year 2505, in a society where intelligence has collapsed and he is now the smartest person alive. As he adapts to this strange future, he becomes involved with its leader, the eccentric President Camacho.
The film is Mike Judge's third feature as director, following Beavis and Butt-Head Do America in 1996 and Office Space in 1999, and preceding Extract in 2009. Judge wrote the screenplay with Etan Cohen and produced with Elysa Koplovitz Dutton. Luke Wilson leads as Joe, with Maya Rudolph as Rita, Dax Shepard as Frito and Terry Crews as President Camacho. The credited cast numbers 77 and the crew 121. Made for a modest 2 million dollars, it is a low-budget production from 20th Century Fox and Ternion Pictures.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 from around 214,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.4 from roughly 3,800 votes. A critics' rating of 6.4 from 51 reviews places professional opinion close to the audience scores, indicating broadly comparable, middling assessments across both groups.

- Director and screenwriter Mike Judge was inspired to create the film by an incident at Disneyland, where he once went with his family and saw two mothers fighting, each with a stroller and a baby. He then thought about how terrible it would be if the future turned out like that.
