Over the Hedge

Over the Hedge follows RJ, a raccoon with a taste for easy schemes, who tries to steal a bear's stockpile of food and is caught in the act. To avoid becoming the bear's next meal, he promises to replace everything within a week. He finds unlikely help in a group of woodland animals just waking from hibernation: a cautious turtle named Verne, a hyperactive squirrel, a skunk, and a blended family of opossums and porcupines. What none of them expected is that a housing development has risen at the edge of their forest while they slept. RJ talks the group into raiding the neighbourhood for food, though Verne suspects their new human neighbours are more dangerous than convenient.

The film was released in 2006 and runs 83 minutes. It was directed by Karey Kirkpatrick and Tim Johnson; for Kirkpatrick it was the first feature he directed, while Johnson had previously directed Antz and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. Kirkpatrick also co-wrote the screenplay with Len Blum and Lorne Cameron, and Bonnie Arnold and Christian Kubsch produced for DreamWorks Animation. The voice cast includes Bruce Willis as RJ, Garry Shandling as Verne, Steve Carell as Hammy, Wanda Sykes as Stella, William Shatner as Ozzie and Nick Nolte as Vincent, with 43 credited cast members and 260 credited crew.

Made for 80 million dollars, it took 343 million worldwide, a strong return. On IMDb it holds 6.7 from about 202,000 votes and on TMDB 6.6 from roughly 5,000, while critics gave it 7 from 171 reviews, a slightly warmer verdict than general audiences.
