Two men from Virginia travel to Texas seeking a better life following the American Civil War. After witnessing a stagecoach robbery, they decide to steal the loot from the thieves. To evade capture, the pair separates and spends a long period apart. When they eventually reunite, they find themselves on opposing sides of the law, with one becoming a rancher and the other a criminal. Their shared bond is further strained as they both fall in love with the same woman.

Released in 1941, this drama and western was produced by Columbia Pictures. It is the second of 13 films directed by George Marshall, following The Ghost Breakers and preceding The Blue Dahlia.
