Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris

In 1950s London, Ada Harris works as a cleaner in the homes of wealthy clients and gets by on very little. When she notices a Christian Dior couture dress in the wardrobe of one of her employers, she becomes fixated on owning one herself. Although she is a widow of modest means, she decides the dress is worth any sacrifice, saves for a long time and travels to Paris to buy it. There she finds that acquiring a Dior gown is not simply a matter of paying for it, and her trip turns into a series of obstacles she must work her way through.

The film is directed by Anthony Fabian, who also shares writing credit with Olivia Hetreed and Carroll Cartwright. It is his second feature, arriving thirteen years after his debut. Lesley Manville plays Ada Harris, with Isabelle Huppert, Lambert Wilson, Alba Baptista, Lucas Bravo and Ellen Thomas among the cast.

Released in July 2022, the film is a co-production involving Belgium, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Canada and France. It took about 31 million dollars worldwide, a solid result for a period comedy drama of its size, and drew 41 credited cast members. On IMDb it holds 7.1 out of 10 from roughly 37,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7.3 out of 10 from around 529 votes. A critics' rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 179 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
