Fun with Dick and Jane

Dick Harper has spent years working toward a promotion at Globodyne, a media conglomerate. When he finally becomes vice president, his wife Jane quits the travel agency job she dislikes so they can enjoy their comfortable life and their new swimming pool. Within a day of the promotion, the company collapses in a financial scandal of the kind associated with Enron, and the man at the top, Jack McCallister, walks away with a substantial payout while Dick is left without a job. The couple's house, cars and social circle begin to slip away, and mounting debt threatens their future.

Faced with losing everything, Dick and Jane turn to robbery, starting small and discovering they have a knack for it. Their early success gives way to doubt once they see that their crimes affect ordinary people. Learning that McCallister himself defrauded Globodyne, they set their sights on him and plan to take their revenge on the executive who escaped the collapse.

Dean Parisot directed the film, which followed Home Fries and Galaxy Quest in his chronological filmography and was written by Judd Apatow and Nicholas Stoller. Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni star as the couple, with Alec Baldwin as McCallister and supporting turns from Richard Jenkins, John Michael Higgins and Angie Harmon. Made for about 100 million dollars, it earned roughly 202 million worldwide, a solid return. On IMDb it holds 6.2 from 163,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.2 from 2,764 votes, with critics rating it 5 from 132 reviews.
