Riverdance: The Animated Adventure

Riverdance: The Animated Adventure follows Keegan, a young Irish boy, and his Spanish friend Moya, who find their way into a mythical world inhabited by Megaloceros Giganteus, the giant deer. There the two children learn to value dance as a celebration of life. Grief runs beneath the story, and the friends must draw on what the deer teach them to cope with loss and with the dangers they meet along the way. The film draws on the stage show of the same name and on Bill Whelan's Grammy-winning music.

Dave Rosenbaum and Eamonn Butler directed, and Rosenbaum wrote the screenplay with Tyler Werrin; all three also produced alongside Moya Doherty. The voice cast includes Pierce Brosnan as Grandad, also called Patrick, with Sam Hardy as Keegan, Hannah Herman Cortes as Moya, Lilly Singh as Penny, Jermaine Fowler as Benny and John Kavanagh as the Gatekeeper.

Released in 2021, the animated adventure runs 86 minutes and was made in the United Kingdom and Canada by Cinesite Animation, Aniventure and River Productions Ltd. Audience responses are modest: on IMDb it holds 5.6/10 from around 2,600 votes, and on TMDB 6/10 from roughly 105 votes. The small vote counts suggest a family film that found a limited following rather than a broad one, and the two scores sit close together.
