Foe

Hen and Junior live on an isolated farm that has belonged to Junior's family for generations. Their routine is interrupted when a stranger named Terrence arrives with an offer that would separate them: Junior has been chosen for a project intended to give humanity a new future, and while he is away, Hen would be given an android companion in his place. The decision forces the couple to weigh their marriage and their sense of who they are against the chance to survive in a changed world.

Garth Davis directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Iain Reid, whose novel the film adapts. It is Davis's third feature, following Lion in 2016 and Mary Magdalene in 2018. Paul Mescal plays Junior and Saoirse Ronan plays Hen, with Aaron Pierre as Terrence. The film was produced by Emile Sherman, Iain Canning and Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, and runs 111 minutes.

Released in October 2023, Foe drew a limited response. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4 from around 13,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8 from roughly 314 votes, while critics were less favourable still, at 4.6 from 119 reviews. The gap between the two audience scores and the critics' rating suggests moviegoers were somewhat more receptive than reviewers to the film's slow, ambiguous science-fiction drama about intimacy and replication.
