A Quiet Place: Day One

A Quiet Place: Day One is a horror and science fiction film set at the start of an alien invasion of New York City. The creatures that arrive hunt by sound rather than sight, so anyone who makes noise quickly becomes their prey. At the centre of the story is Samira, a young woman who is already seriously ill and living in a care facility outside the city. A trip into Manhattan with other patients and her cat Frodo turns into a struggle to survive once the attack begins. Cut off from any rescue and moving through streets that have fallen into chaos, she has to stay silent if she wants to live, and she eventually bands together with other survivors.

The film is directed by Michael Sarnoski, who wrote the screenplay with John Krasinski, and it follows his debut That and Pig in his filmography. Lupita Nyong'o plays Samira, with Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou among the supporting cast. It was produced by Michael Bay, John Krasinski and Andrew Form for Paramount, Platinum Dunes and Sunday Night, on a budget of 67 million dollars, and it went on to take about 262 million dollars worldwide. Audience scores sit at 6.3 on IMDb and 6.6 on TMDB, while film critics gave it 7.1 from 288 reviews, so reviewers rated it somewhat more positively than general viewers did.
