Marcelo Peña has spent years as an assistant professor of political philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires, and after the death of his mentor, Professor Caselli, a vacant chair opens up that he seems poised to inherit. His hopes are unsettled by the return from Europe of Rafael Sujarchuk, a former student of Caselli who is now a well-known academic and media figure, and who wants the position for himself. The rivalry between the two men unfolds against a deteriorating social and political situation in the country, pushing the question of what philosophical thinking is actually for.
The film is directed by María Alché and Benjamín Naishtat, who also wrote the screenplay together. For Alché it was the first of her two directing credits to date, ahead of Pedro en el país, while Naishtat came to it after Rojo and before Glaxo and Pedro en el país. Marcelo Subiotto plays Marcelo, with Leonardo Sbaraglia as Sujarchuk and Julieta Zylberberg, Alejandra Flechner, Mara Bestelli and Andrea Frigerio among the supporting cast. It is a comedy running 107 minutes, a co-production involving Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Italy and France.
Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 from roughly 1,900 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.4 from a much smaller number of votes.
