The Bubble

The Bubble is a comedy about the cast and crew of a popular action franchise who try to keep shooting a sequel while confined to a luxury hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic. The production centers on Cliff Beasts 6: The Battle for Everest, an installment in a series about deadly flying dinosaurs, and the actors are largely stuck inside a controlled bubble, cut off from the outside world. Long shooting days and pressure to deliver a hit wear on everyone, and the forced closeness soon produces tension, schemes and emotional outbursts. Among the ensemble are Carol Cobb, an actress hoping the sequel will revive her career, along with her co-stars and an influential social media personality.

Judd Apatow directed and produced the film and wrote the screenplay with Pam Brady. It is his seventh directorial feature, following The King of Staten Island, and it belongs to the run of comedies he made after Knocked Up, Funny People and Trainwreck. The large cast includes Karen Gillan, Iris Apatow, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, Vir Das and David Duchovny, with 40 credited cast members and 205 credited crew.

Released in March 2022, the film runs 127 minutes. On IMDb it holds 6.4/10 from around 9,600 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 4.6/10 from roughly 531 votes, a wider gap between the two audiences than their numbers alone suggest. A film critics' rating of 6/10 from 21 reviews places critical opinion above the TMDB audience score but close to the IMDb figure.
