Boxing Day

Boxing Day is a British romantic comedy about Melvin, a writer who has built a life in America. He travels back to London for the Christmas holidays to introduce his American fiancée, Lisa, to the eccentric British-Caribbean family he left behind. As Lisa gets to know the world he came from, the visit puts pressure on their relationship, and the couple becomes caught up in family drama involving Melvin's former girlfriend, Georgia.

The film is directed by Aml Ameen, who also wrote the screenplay with Bruce Purnell, produced it, and stars as Melvin. It was Ameen's first time in the director's chair. Aja Naomi King plays Lisa, with Leigh-Anne Pinnock as Georgia, Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Shirley Mckenzie, Tamara Lawrance as Aretha "Boobsy" Mckenzie, and Sheyi Cole as Josh Mckenzie. The credited cast runs to 25 performers. Made in the United Kingdom by Film4 Productions, the BFI, DJ Films and Studio 113, it runs 109 minutes.

Audience responses differ sharply by platform. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.4 from roughly 1,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7 from a much smaller base of about 33 ratings.
