Quiz Lady

Anne is a bright, introverted young woman who spends her days working in an office and never misses an episode of her favourite television quiz show, hosted by Terry McTeer. Her life is upended when she learns that her mother has run up large gambling debts, and that her beloved dog has been taken as leverage by the people demanding payment. To raise the money, Anne reluctantly joins forces with Jenny, the unpredictable sister she has grown apart from. Their plan is to turn Anne's years of quiz-watching into an actual run on the game show circuit, a scheme that takes the two of them across the country.

Jessica Yu directed the film from a screenplay by Jen D'Angelo, with Will Ferrell, Sandra Oh and Jessica Elbaum among the producers. Awkwafina plays Anne and Sandra Oh plays Jenny, with Ferrell as the show's host Terry McTeer. Jason Schwartzman, Holland Taylor and Angela Trimbur appear in supporting roles. It sits between Yu's 2004 documentary In the Realms of the Unreal and her 2025 film A Very Jonas Christmas Movie.

Released in September 2023, Quiz Lady runs 100 minutes. It has drawn an IMDb rating of 6.7 from around 25,000 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.7 from over 300 votes, both slightly above the critics' average of 6.4 from 93 reviews.
