Shoot Out

Clay Lomax is released from prison after serving seven years for a bank robbery. He has not forgotten Sam Foley, the partner who shot him during the holdup and escaped with the proceeds, and Foley, now a man of some standing, expects trouble and puts three hired men on Clay's trail. Clay's plans are further unsettled when the money he left with a former lover never reaches him; instead he receives word that she has died and is handed her young daughter, believed to be his own child. The girl becomes an unexpected responsibility as he tries to settle accounts.

Shoot Out is a Western directed by Henry Hathaway, the eighteenth film in his directorial career and his follow-up to True Grit. Marguerite Roberts wrote the screenplay, Paul Nathan produced, and Universal Pictures with Hal Wallis Productions backed the project on a budget of roughly one million dollars. Gregory Peck plays Clay Lomax, with James Gregory as Sam Foley, Robert F. Lyons as Bobby Jay, Susan Tyrrell as Alma, Jeff Corey as Trooper and Patricia Quinn as Juliana.

The film runs ninety-four minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.3 from a modest number of votes, indicating a mixed reception among those who have seen it.
