Hollywood Stargirl follows teenager Susan Caraway, known as Stargirl, who leaves Arizona for Los Angeles when her mother Ana takes a job as a costume designer on a film production. Settling into her new surroundings, Stargirl meets an assortment of people who shape her time in the city, among them her neighbour Mr. Mitchell, the aspiring filmmakers Evan and Terrell, and Roxanne Martel, a musician she admires. Stargirl hopes to pursue her own ambitions as a singer, and her encounters in Los Angeles unfold alongside that aim.
The film is a sequel to Stargirl (2020), the earlier adaptation of Jerry Spinelli's novel, and it sits fifth in the directing career of Julia Hart, between I'm Your Woman (2020) and Don't Say Good Luck (2026). Hart wrote the screenplay with Jordan Horowitz, who also produced with Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman. Grace VanderWaal and Judy Greer return as Stargirl and Ana, joined by Uma Thurman, Judd Hirsch, Elijah Richardson and Tyrel Jackson Williams; 41 cast members are credited. It was released by Walt Disney Pictures in June 2022 and runs 105 minutes.
Audience response has been moderate. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 1,400 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from about 65 votes. Both figures indicate a modest reception rather than a widely embraced one, with the two sets of viewers not far apart in their assessment.
