The Exorcist: Believer

The Exorcist: Believer centres on Victor Fielding, a single father raising his daughter Angela after his wife's death. When Angela and her friend Katherine vanish into the woods, they reappear three days later with no memory of where they have been. Their families' relief gives way to alarm as both girls begin behaving in disturbing, aggressive ways. Convinced something malevolent has followed them home, Victor seeks out Chris MacNeil, the one living person who has witnessed anything comparable before, and the two are drawn into a confrontation with a force beyond ordinary understanding. The film is a direct continuation of the story begun in The Exorcist, set five decades after those events.

David Gordon Green directed from a screenplay he wrote with Peter Sattler, working from a story by Green, Sattler and Danny McBride. It is the thirteenth of the fourteen films he has directed, arriving between Halloween Ends in 2022 and Nutcrackers in 2024. Leslie Odom Jr. plays Victor, with Lidya Jewett as Angela, Olivia Marcum as Katherine, Ann Dowd as Nurse Ann Brooks, and Jennifer Nettles and Norbert Leo Butz as Katherine's parents. James G. Robinson, Jason Blum and David Robinson produced the film for Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, Rough House Pictures and Morgan Creek.

Made for about 30 million dollars, the film took roughly 136 million dollars worldwide during its theatrical run, a strong return against its cost. Audience response was subdued: it holds a rating of 4.8 on IMDb from around 50,000 votes and 5.8 on TMDB from a much smaller poll of about 1,330, while the critics' rating stands at 4.4 from 253 reviews.
