Short description

Apartment 7A is set in New York City in 1965, where Terry Gionoffrio, a young dancer, is struggling to rebuild her life after an ankle injury derails her career. Living with a friend and enduring a string of failed auditions, she collapses on the street one day and is taken in by Roman and Minnie Castevet, an older, well-connected couple who live in the exclusive Bramford building. They offer her a place to stay nearby and promise to help her career, and before long her fortunes begin to improve. The arrangement, however, comes with unsettling undercurrents that Terry gradually becomes aware of.

The film is a horror thriller directed by Natalie Erika James, following her debut Relic (2020) and preceding Saccharine (2026), from a screenplay she wrote with Christian White and Skylar James. Julia Garner plays Terry, with Dianne Wiest as Minnie, Kevin McNally as Roman, Jim Sturgess, Marli Siu and Andrew Buchan among the credited cast of twenty-seven. Bradley Fuller, Michael Bay and Allyson Seeger produced for Paramount, Platinum Dunes and Sunday Night, and the film runs 104 minutes.

Released in September 2024, Apartment 7A holds a rating of 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 425 votes, suggesting a modest reception. It serves as a precursor to Rosemary's Baby, depicting events at the Bramford before that story begins.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In one scene, the song 'Angel of the Morning' plays on the radio; it was released in 1967, while the film is set in 1965-66.
  • The film does not strictly follow the chronology of events in 'Rosemary's Baby'. The Woodhouses move into Mrs. Gardenia's vacated apartment, but here she falls into a coma later than when a woman resembling Rosemary is shown in Bramford. Rosemary became pregnant in late October 1965, after Terry's death, but here Terry welcomes 1966 at a New Year's Eve party.
  • At the 45-minute mark of the film, Annie and Terry celebrate the New Year and sing the song 'If My Friends Could See Me Now'. The friends could not have known this song from the musical 'Sweet Charity' at the very beginning of 1966, as its Broadway premiere took place on January 29, 1966.
