Thanmathra

Thanmathra centres on Rameshan, a family man in Kerala whose life with his wife Lekha and their two children begins to unravel when he grows forgetful and loses his bearings in familiar places. A diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease follows, and the family must come to terms with the illness and the changes it brings. Mohanlal plays Rameshan, with Meera Vasudevan as Lekha and Arjun Lal as their son Manu, supported by Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar and Seetha. Blessy wrote and directed the drama, his second feature, following Kaazhcha a year earlier within his filmography of four directed films.

Released in December 2005 and running 160 minutes, the film was produced by Raju Mathew under the Century Films banner. Its reputation rests on Mohanlal's performance as a man gradually losing his memory and on the film's treatment of the strain that places on a household. On IMDb it holds an 8.4 rating from around 5,400 votes, while on TMDB the rating stands at 7.8 from a much smaller number of votes. The wide gap in vote counts makes the TMDB figure the less representative of the two, though both point to a film held in high regard by those who have seen it.
