The Silent Twins

The Silent Twins tells the story of June and Jennifer Gibbons, twin sisters growing up in a small Welsh town during the 1970s and 1980s. As the only Black family in their community, the girls feel isolated and withdraw from those around them, speaking only to each other. They build a private world of fantasy, teenage longing and creative ambition, eventually writing fiction together before their interests shift toward boys and, later, crime. After a spate of vandalism, they are sent to Broadmoor, a psychiatric hospital, where they must confront a difficult choice about their future together.

The film is directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, following her 2015 debut The Lure and preceding her 2026 film Hot Spot. Andrea Seigel wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Letitia Wright as June and Tamara Lawrance as Jennifer, with Leah Mondesir-Simmonds and Eva-Arianna Baxter playing the sisters as children, and Nadine Marshall and Treva Etienne in supporting roles. It is a co-production between the United Kingdom, Poland, the United States and France.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.7 from around 2,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.3 from 89 reviews places it roughly level with the audience score on TMDB and slightly above the IMDb figure.
