Bottoms

Bottoms is a comedy about two unpopular best friends, PJ and Josie, who are high school seniors and want to lose their virginity before graduation. After an accidental car accident involving the school's star quarterback makes them briefly notorious, the pair invent a cover story about a summer spent in a juvenile detention center. With help from their friend Hazel and a teacher, they start a women's self-defense club, hoping it will bring them closer to the cheerleaders they are interested in. The club quickly becomes more popular than they intended, with students using it as an outlet for fighting, and the two find their plan spiraling beyond their control.

The film was directed by Emma Seligman, who wrote the screenplay with Rachel Sennott. It followed her debut feature, Shiva Baby, released two years earlier. Sennott stars as PJ, with Ayo Edebiri as Josie, Ruby Cruz as Hazel, Havana Rose Liu as Isabel, Kaia Gerber as Brittany, and Nicholas Galitzine as Jeff. Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman are among the producers.

Made on a budget of around 11 million dollars, Bottoms took in roughly 13 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.7 from about 57,000 votes, and on TMDB it also scores 6.7, from a smaller base of 923 votes. A critics' rating of 7.5 from 226 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
