Aurora

Aurora follows Viorel, a 42-year-old man living in Bucharest. Recently divorced and in emotional turmoil, he goes about ordinary daily routines while carrying a hunting rifle through the city, moving toward a destination only he knows. Scenes of quiet domestic life, a man watching a family from behind abandoned trailers on waste ground, and long drives through traffic gradually reveal that Viorel is a killer. The film stars Cristi Puiu as Viorel, alongside Clara Vodă, Ileana Puiu, Valeria Seciu, Valentin Popescu and Simona Popescu.

Cristi Puiu directed and wrote the film, which was released in 2011 and runs 186 minutes. It came after The Death of Mr. Lazarescu and before Sieranevada in his filmography. Producers were Bobby Păunescu and Anca Puiu, and it was a co-production between Romania, Germany, France and Switzerland. The large credited cast of 39 supports a slow, observational approach in which Viorel's intentions are disclosed only gradually.

The film received a critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 30 reviews, while on IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 2,200 votes. Its audience score on TMDB is 5.7 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes.
