Good on Paper

Andrea Singer has spent years putting her stand-up career ahead of any serious relationship. When she meets Dennis, a charming and eccentric man who seems to fit everything she has been looking for, she begins to let her guard down. Her best friend and those around her are not so sure he is what he appears to be, and their doubts push Andrea to look more closely at the man she has fallen for. The film is a romantic comedy built around the gap between how a partner looks on paper and who he turns out to be.

Good on Paper was released in 2021 and runs 92 minutes. It is the first feature directed by Kimmy Gatewood, whose later project Descendants: Wicked Wonderland followed in 2026. The screenplay was written by Iliza Shlesinger, who also plays Andrea, and the cast includes Ryan Hansen as Dennis, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Matt McGorry, Taylor Hill and Beth Dover. It was produced by Paul Bernon, Sam Slater and David Bernon, with Universal Pictures among the production companies.

The film drew modest scores across the board. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.6 out of 10 from far fewer votes. A critics' rating of 5.2 out of 10 from 38 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores, suggesting a mild reception from both professional reviewers and viewers.
