Frank Perry directed this 1971 western, which follows John "Doc" Holliday, a gambling dentist and gunman suffering from tuberculosis, as he makes his way to Tombstone, Arizona, in the company of Katie Elder, a woman he wins in a card game. There he reunites with his friend Wyatt Earp, the marshal caught in a growing feud with the Clanton family. The dispute between Earp and the Clantons escalates toward the confrontation at the O.K. Corral. Stacy Keach plays Holliday, Faye Dunaway plays Katie Elder, Harris Yulin plays Wyatt Earp, and Michael Witney plays Ike Clanton.

The screenplay was written by journalist Pete Hamill, and Perry produced the film himself. It sits between Last Summer and Skag in Perry's filmography, which also includes The Swimmer before it and Mommie Dearest later. The production came from United Artists and FP Films and runs 96 minutes.

Audience response has been moderate. On IMDb it holds a 6.3 rating from about 2,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from a much smaller base of 49 votes, so the two sources broadly agree on an average reception. The film was released in August 1971.
