Tiptoes

Carol is pregnant, but her boyfriend Steven does not want the child. When she insists on keeping the baby, he finally admits the family secret he has been hiding: his parents and his twin brother Rolfe are little people, though Steven himself is of average height. He fears the child will inherit the same traits. Carol refuses to let that change her decision, and through Rolfe she is drawn into a world of family and friends she had never known. The story mixes comedy, drama and romance around a couple facing an unexpected truth.

The film was directed by Matthew Bright, who also wrote the screenplay. It followed his 1996 debut Freeway and arrived the same year as his Ted Bundy, placing it in the middle of a brief run of features he made. Matthew McConaughey plays Steven, Kate Beckinsale plays Carol, and Gary Oldman plays Rolfe, with Patricia Arquette, Peter Dinklage and Debbie Lee Carrington among the supporting cast. It was a co-production between the United States and France, with a credited crew of 128.

Tiptoes was released in December 2002 and runs 90 minutes. Reception has been weak: on IMDb it holds a rating of 3.9 out of 10 from 108 votes, while a critics' rating of 4 out of 10 from 10 reviews is slightly higher, so both critics and audiences responded negatively, and the small vote count suggests the film reached limited audiences.
