Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman

Set in a gritty, decadent 1970s America, Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman dramatizes the hunt for one of the country's most notorious criminals. As young women disappear and unsolved missing-person cases mount, investigators come to suspect Ted Bundy, whose charm and intelligence help him move between states while evading capture. The film pairs the killer's trail with the effort to stop him, focusing on FBI agents Kathleen McChesney and Robert Ressler, who help organize the pursuit, and on the detective work and early profiling methods that eventually close in on him. Bundy's mother and women close to him appear as the investigation narrows.

Daniel Farrands wrote and directed the crime thriller, his fifth feature behind the camera following Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, Crystal Lake Memories, The Amityville Murders and The Haunting of Sharon Tate; the same year saw the release of Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman. Chad Michael Murray plays Bundy, with Holland Roden as McChesney and Jake Hays as Ressler. Lin Shaye, Greer Grammer and Marietta Melrose round out the cast. Lucas Jarach produced.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4 out of 10 from around 2,200 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 out of 10 from roughly 150 votes. The much smaller TMDB sample is considerably more favorable than the larger IMDb audience, whose verdict is distinctly negative.
