October Baby follows Hannah, a college freshman and stage actress who collapses during a performance. Medical tests trace her health problems back to her premature birth, and her parents then tell her something harder to absorb: she is adopted, and she survived an attempt to end her biological mother's pregnancy. Reeling from the news, Hannah sets out with her friend Jason and others on a road trip to learn where she came from and to find the woman who gave birth to her.
The 2011 American drama was the first feature directed by Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin, who went on to make Moms' Night Out, Woodlawn, I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe, American Underdog and Jesus Revolution together, with Jon Erwin also directing Young Washington and Andrew Erwin directing I Can Only Imagine 2. Jon Erwin wrote the screenplay with Cecil Stokes. Rachel Hendrix plays Hannah, with Jason Burkey, John Schneider, Jennifer Price, Colleen Trusler and James Austin Johnson among a credited cast of 32. Made for about 1 million dollars, it took roughly 5 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.6/10 from around 8,100 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.4/10 from far fewer votes. A critics' rating of 4.7/10 from 39 reviews sits below both audience scores, marking a clear divide between reviewers and viewers.
