The Wandering Earth II

The sun is dying, and humanity faces extinction. In response, nations around the world build enormous engines across Earth's surface, intending to push the entire planet out of its orbit and across interstellar space toward a new home. The journey demands enormous sacrifice, and as disasters strike, a group of younger people must take on the dangerous work of keeping the mission alive.

Frant Gwo directed and co-wrote the film, which continues the story he began with The Wandering Earth in 2019. It followed his 2020 releases The Wandering Earth: Beyond and The Sacrifice. Wu Jing, Andy Lau, Li Xuejian, Sha Yi and Ning Li lead a cast of 64 credited performers, with Gong Geer, Yang Zhixue and Gwo sharing screenplay credit. It is a large-scale Chinese production with a budget of 90 million US dollars.

Released in January 2023, the film earned about 605 million US dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7.3 out of 10 from 760 votes. A critics' rating of 6.3 out of 10 from 23 reviews places it slightly below both audience scores, suggesting viewers responded somewhat more warmly than reviewers.
