Cat Person

Margot, a college sophomore who works at an art-house cinema, strikes up a flirtation with Robert, a regular customer more than a decade older. Their exchanges over text grow witty and intimate over several weeks, and despite her best friend's warnings to keep the relationship confined to messages, Margot agrees to meet him in person. The encounters that follow are awkward and unsettling, and as troubling signals accumulate she begins to question who Robert really is and whether the danger she senses is real or something she has imagined.

The film adapts Kristen Roupenian's short story of the same name, published in The New Yorker. Susanna Fogel directed from a screenplay by Michelle Ashford; it is the third of the four features Fogel has directed, following Life Partners and The Spy Who Dumped Me and preceding Winner. Emilia Jones plays Margot and Nicholas Braun plays Robert, with Geraldine Viswanathan, Isabella Rossellini, Hope Davis and Christopher Shyer among the supporting cast. It is a co-production between the United States and France, made for a budget of 12 million USD.
