Daddio takes place largely inside a New York taxi, where a woman arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport strikes up a conversation with her driver on the ride into Manhattan. What begins as small talk gradually becomes something more personal, as the two passengers in each other's lives share stories about the relationships that have shaped them. The woman is distracted by messages arriving on her phone, and as she opens up about her romantic life, the driver reveals parts of his own history. The night journey leaves both of them seeing their circumstances differently.
The film is written and directed by Christy Hall, marking her feature debut behind the camera. Dakota Johnson stars as the passenger and also produces alongside Hall and Terry Dougas, while Sean Penn plays the driver. Marcos A. Gonzalez and Zora Lloyd appear in supporting roles.
Released in June 2024, the drama runs 100 minutes and was produced through companies based in Luxembourg and the United States. It earned about 2 million dollars worldwide, a modest figure against typical production costs. On IMDb, 15,000 voters give it 6.6 out of 10, while the smaller TMDB sample of 352 users rates it 6.3. A critics' score of 6.8 from 114 reviews places professional response slightly above the audience average on IMDb, though the gap is narrow.
