Something in the Dirt

John and Levi are neighbors in a Los Angeles apartment building who witness strange phenomena around them. Rather than being frightened, they see an opportunity: if they can document the paranormal activity, it might bring them the fame and money their stalled lives lack. Their investigation pulls them into a tangle of conspiracy theories and increasingly bizarre events, and the dangers they encounter stop being only theoretical.

Something in the Dirt is a 2022 comedy, horror, mystery and science fiction film directed by Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, the sixth feature they directed together, following Resolution, Spring, V/H/S: Viral, The Endless and Synchronic. Benson wrote the screenplay, and both directors produced with David Lawson Jr. Moorhead and Benson star as John Daniels and Levi Danube, with Sarah Adina Smith, Wanjiru M. Njendu, Issa López and Vinny Curran in supporting roles.

The film was released in November 2022 and runs 115 minutes. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 7.5 out of 10 from 80 reviews, while on TMDB its audience rating is 5.8 out of 10 from 145 votes, a gap that suggests critics responded to the film more favorably than general viewers did.
