Ithaka

Ithaka is a documentary focusing on the efforts to secure the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. While Assange is presented as a global symbol in the debate over government corruption, war crimes, and press freedom, the film centers on the personal struggle of his elderly father attempting to save his son. The narrative follows the family's perspective as they face the American legal system and the risk of extradition while Assange's health declines in a high-security British prison.

The film was directed and written by Ben Lawrence, marking the first of two listed feature films in his career, followed by Aftermath in 2026. It is an Australian production supported by companies including Screen Australia, VicScreen, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The cast features John Shipton appearing as himself, with archive footage of Julian Assange, Donald Trump, Theresa May, Daniel Ellsberg, and Boris Johnson.

Released on April 21, 2022, the movie has a runtime of 111 minutes. It has received a positive response from viewers, maintaining a rating of 7.3/10 on IMDb based on 238 votes.
