Stephen Curry: Underrated

Stephen Curry: Underrated is a documentary about the basketball player Stephen Curry and the path that took him from an overlooked college guard to a four-time NBA champion. It follows him through a career in which he was underestimated early on because of his size, and shows how that experience shaped the player and person he became. The film combines his rise with a look at his family, his teammates and the people around him, including his wife Ayesha, his father Dell, Draymond Green, Kevin Durant and Reggie Miller, who all appear as themselves.

Peter Nicks directed the film and produced it alongside Ryan Coogler and Curry himself, with A24, Proximity Media, NBA Entertainment and Unanimous Media behind it. Nicks had previously made documentaries such as The Waiting Room and Homeroom, and this film came after that run of work. At 110 minutes, it is a feature-length portrait rather than a short profile.

Audience response has been positive but not overwhelming. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from roughly 5,100 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 7.5 from a much smaller group of around 108 ratings. Those figures suggest a documentary that found a solid, if modest, audience, with viewers who sought it out generally responding well to it.
