Adam Clay lives quietly as a beekeeper, tending his hives and staying on good terms with the people around him. When a phone scam drains a woman he cares about and she takes her own life, he sets the fraudsters in his sights. What begins as one man's pursuit of those responsible grows into something far larger, because Clay turns out to have once worked for a secretive outfit known as the Beekeepers, and the trail of the scam leads toward powerful interests.
David Ayer directed the film, which sits ninth among the features he has directed, between The Tax Collector and A Working Man. Kurt Wimmer wrote the screenplay, and Jason Statham, Wimmer and Bill Block produced. Statham plays Clay, with Emmy Raver-Lampman as Agent Verona Parker, Josh Hutcherson as Derek Danforth, Jeremy Irons as Wallace Westwyld, Bobby Naderi as Agent Matt Wiley and David Witts as Mickey Garnett. Around fifty cast members and roughly 177 crew are credited.
Made for a reported 35 million US dollars, the film took in about 163 million worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 out of 10 from over 4,500 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 5.9 out of 10 from 169 reviews.
