Jawan

Jawan follows Azad, a prison warden who leads a group of inmates in a series of daring operations against corruption and injustice in India. His actions are driven by a personal vendetta and by a promise he made years earlier. What begins as a campaign against powerful wrongdoers gradually pulls him toward a confrontation with figures from his own past, including an unexpected reunion that ties the present mission to an old set of events.

The film is set around two central figures played by Shah Rukh Khan, whose double role spans the present-day leader and a soldier from an earlier era. Nayanthara appears as an experienced police officer, while Vijay Sethupathi plays the antagonist, Kalee Gaikwad. Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Dutt and Priyamani also feature in the large ensemble. Atlee directed, his fourth film after Theri, Mersal and Bigil, and wrote the screenplay with Ramana Girivasan. Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan produced it under Red Chillies Entertainment.

Released in September 2023 and running close to three hours, the film is a large-scale action adventure. Its reported budget of about 38 million US dollars is high for Indian cinema, and the worldwide gross of roughly 137 million dollars shows it reached a broad audience. On IMDb it holds a 6.9 rating from around 110,000 votes, and on TMDB a 7 rating from a smaller number of users. The critics' rating of 7.7 from 37 reviews is higher than the audience scores on both platforms.
