Consecration

Consecration follows Grace, an ophthalmologist who travels to a remote convent in the Scottish countryside after learning that her brother, a priest, has died there in an apparent suicide. She does not accept the explanation she is given and begins asking her own questions about what happened. Her investigation points to murder and sacrilege, and it also forces her to confront something troubling about her own past.

Christopher Smith directed and co-wrote the film with Laurie Cook, working from a story set largely within the convent and the surrounding coastline. Jena Malone plays Grace, with Danny Huston as the Vatican priest Father Romero, Thoren Ferguson as DCI Harris, Will Keen as John, Ian Pirie as Vincent and Janet Suzman as Mother Superior. The film runs 91 minutes. It is the eighth feature Smith directed, arriving between The Banishing and Spider Island.

The film was released in February 2023 and took in about 2 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 185 votes, a modest reception from a small audience sample.
