Alfie

Alfie is a Londoner living in New York and driving a limousine, a job that puts him in constant reach of attractive women. He moves between them without commitment, keeping things light and avoiding anything that resembles a settled relationship. Among the people close to him are his fellow driver Marlon and Marlon's girlfriend Lonette. When Alfie becomes involved with Lonette, the repercussions force him to reconsider the way he treats the women in his life and the cost of living only for his own pleasure. Julie, a single mother he has been seeing, is part of that reckoning.

The film is a 2004 comedy-drama directed by Charles Shyer, who wrote the screenplay with Elaine Pope and produced it with her. It sits sixth in the directing career Shyer began with Baby Boom in 1987 and continued through two Father of the Bride films, I Love Trouble and The Affair of the Necklace. Jude Law plays Alfie, with Marisa Tomei as Julie, Omar Epps as Marlon, Jane Krakowski as Dorie, Renée Taylor as Lu Schnitman and Jeff Harding as Phil. Thirty-seven cast members and sixty-one crew are credited.

Against a budget of 60 million dollars, the film took about 35 million dollars worldwide. Audiences rate it 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb from 56,000 votes and 5.9 out of 10 on TMDB from 903 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 5.8 out of 10 from 152 reviews, putting critical and audience responses at a similar level.
