One Piece Film Red

One Piece Film Red centres on Uta, a pop singer whose voice has made her the most popular performer in the world, though she has always kept her real identity hidden. She is about to give her first live concert, on the music island of Elegia, and the audience includes excited pirates, watching Marines and Luffy's Straw Hat crew, who have come simply to hear her sing. The event takes a sharp turn when it emerges that Uta is the daughter of the pirate Shanks, and her plans for a new age of happiness for everyone set her on a misguided path.

The film is directed by Goro Taniguchi, whose earlier work includes One Piece: Defeat the Pirate Ganzack!, the Code Geass films and Scryed Alteration. It is his eighth feature in the listed chronology, followed by Estab Life: Revengers' Road, Bloody Escape and Samurai Ballerina. Tsutomu Kuroiwa wrote the screenplay, and Mayumi Tanaka returns as the voice of Luffy, with Kazuya Nakai, Akemi Okamura and Kappei Yamaguchi among the Straw Hats, while Shuichi Ikeda voices Shanks and Kaori Nazuka voices Uta. Around fifty-four cast members and close to two hundred crew are credited.

Released in Japan in August 2022, the film took about 171 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.7 from roughly 26,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.2 from over a thousand. A critics' rating of 7.8 from thirty-eight reviews places it above both audience scores.
