Close is a drama about two thirteen-year-old boys, Léo and Rémi, whose friendship has always been unusually close. They grow up together, trusting each other completely and showing their affection openly, until the start of a new school year changes how the people around them see that bond. Questions from classmates about whether the two are a couple make Léo pull away, and Rémi is left hurt and confused by the distance that opens between them. Léo eventually turns to Rémi's mother, Sophie, as he tries to make sense of what happened.

The film was directed by Lukas Dhont, who wrote the screenplay with Angelo Tijssens. It is his second feature, following Girl from 2018 and preceding Coward from 2026. Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele play the two boys, with Émilie Dequenne as Sophie; Léa Drucker, Igor van Dessel and Kevin Janssens also appear. The production was a Belgian, Dutch and French co-production, and it took about 5 million dollars worldwide.

Audiences rate Close at 7.8 out of 10 on both IMDb, from roughly 47,000 votes, and TMDB, from a much smaller base of about 1,000 votes; the agreement between the two suggests a widely shared response. A critics' rating of 8.4 out of 10 from 154 reviews places it somewhat higher than those audience scores.
