Tori and Lokita

Tori and Lokita is a drama about two young people from Africa living in Belgium without family. Lokita is a teenager, Tori a boy not yet in his teens, and the pair have come to depend on each other as if they were siblings. Their trouble is official: Tori has been granted permission to stay, while Lokita has not, and the authorities want proof that the two are related. Much of their life together is spent dealing with immigration offices and the effort to have their bond recognised, so that they can remain in the country legally. Their loyalty to one another is what carries them through a precarious existence.

The film was written and directed by Luc Dardenne and Jean-Pierre Dardenne, the Belgian brothers who also produced it. It arrived in 2022, after The Unknown Girl, and belongs to the run of features they have made since Rosetta. Pablo Schils plays Tori and Joely Mbundu plays Lokita, with Alban Ukaj, Tijmen Govaerts, Charlotte De Bruyne and Nadège Ouedraogo in supporting roles.

Tori and Lokita runs 88 minutes and was released in October 2022. On IMDb it holds 7.1/10 from around 3,600 votes, and on TMDB 6.9/10 from 99 votes. A critics' rating of 7.3/10 from 85 reviews puts professional assessment slightly above the audience scores.
