Short description
Mia survives a terrorist attack at a Paris bistro, but three months later she remains unable to resume her life and recalls only fragments of that night. To overcome the trauma, she sets out to investigate her own memories and retrace her steps. Alice Winocour directed the film, her fourth feature after Augustine, Disorder and Proxima, and wrote the screenplay with Marcia Romano and Jean-Stéphane Bron. Virginie Efira plays Mia, with Benoît Magimel as Thomas, Grégoire Colin as Vincent, Maya Sansa as Sara, Nastya Golubeva Carax as Félicia and Amadou Mbow as Assane. Isabelle Madelaine and Emilie Tisné produced the film for Pathé, France 3 Cinéma, Dharamsala and Darius Films.
Released in France in September 2022, the drama runs 103 minutes and is set in Paris. Its worldwide box office of about 4 million dollars is modest for a French production with this cast, suggesting a limited theatrical reach beyond its home market. On IMDb it holds 6.9 out of 10 from roughly 3,900 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.1 out of 10 from around 354 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- Alice Vinocur's younger brother, Jeremy, was at the Bataclan on the day of the attacks. He survived, but suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder for a long time.
- The plot is based on real events that occurred on November 13, 2015. Several attacks were carried out in Paris almost simultaneously – explosions near the Stade de France stadium, a massacre at the Bataclan concert hall, and a shooting at several restaurants. 130 people died in Paris that day, and more than 350 were injured. These attacks were the deadliest in French history.
