My Brother's Wedding

My Brother's Wedding is an American drama written and directed by Charles Burnett, released in 1985. It follows Pierce Mundy, a young Black man in Los Angeles who drifts through life without a clear direction. When his brother, an ambitious lawyer on the rise, asks him to serve as best man at his wedding, Pierce agrees only reluctantly. The ceremony draws him into tension between the expectations of his family and the world he actually inhabits, including his ties to friends and neighbors in his working-class community. The film runs 81 minutes and was produced by Charles Burnett Productions with ZDF.

The film is Charles Burnett's second feature as director, arriving between Killer of Sheep in 1978 and Selma, Lord, Selma in 1999. Burnett also wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Gaye Shannon-Burnett, who appears in the cast as Sonia Dubois. Everett Silas plays Pierce, with Jessie Holmes and Dennis Kemper as his parents, Ronnie Bell as Soldier Richards and Sally Easter as Mrs. Richards. The credited cast runs to 106 people.

My Brother's Wedding holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 1,200 votes, and the same average on TMDB from a much smaller base of roughly 20 votes. The larger IMDb sample and limited TMDB count indicate a modest but consistent level of viewer approval for this independent production.
