R.M.N. follows Matthias, who has left his job in Germany shortly before Christmas and returned to his home village in Transylvania. He wants to play a larger part in raising his son, Rudi, who has been in the care of the boy's mother, Ana, and to help the child overcome his fears. Matthias also hopes to see Csilla, a former lover, and is concerned about his elderly father, Otto. The quiet of the multiethnic community is unsettled when the small factory Csilla manages hires new workers from abroad, stirring up resentments and tensions among the adults.
Cristian Mungiu wrote, directed and produced the film, his fourth feature after 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Beyond the Hills and Graduation. Marin Grigore plays Matthias, with Judith State as Csilla, Macrina Bârlădeanu as Ana, Orsolya Moldovan, András Hatházi and Endre Rácz among the credited cast of thirty-six. The drama runs 125 minutes and was made as a co-production between Belgium, Romania, France and Sweden.
