Hey Joe

Set in Naples, this drama begins in 1944 when American sailor Dean Barry falls in love with a local girl named Lucia. Following the end of his military service, Dean returns to New Jersey, leaving Lucia behind in Italy while she is pregnant. Decades later, in the early 1970s, Dean travels back to Naples to reconnect with his son. He hopes to make up for twenty-five years of absence, but finds that his son has grown up in the criminal underworld under the care of a smuggling boss and has no desire to form a relationship with his father.

The film was directed by Claudio Giovannesi, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Maurizio Braucci and Massimo Gaudioso. This is the third film directed by Giovannesi, following 9x10 Ninety and Piranhas. The cast is led by James Franco as Dean Barry and Will O'Donnell as Tim.
